hi Carrie,

I am having trouble figuring out how to do entree selection on the rsvp card.  we are having a choice of beef, chicken, or fish (and vegetarian for the select few that will be having vegetarian).  I guess my question is, for invitations that are addressed to two or more people, do we have them write down a number next to the entree selection?  do we have to put a vegetarian choice on the card in addition to the top 3?

Talk to the catering manager and find out if they need to know the exact seat where each guest is sitting and what their meal selection is. Most likely you will need to put some type of key on each place card to let the server know who is having what. Make sure it is very easy for the banquet server to see, especially in a dimly lit reception hall.

Here are some simple suggestions/ideas:

• different colored rhinestone designs
• different ribbon colors
• a picture
• different colored card stock
• different sticker used for scrap booking

Of Course you want all of this to beautifully tie into your wedding colors and theme. Here is the idea Mary Ann used for here wedding @ The Ritz Carlton in Dana Point:

The Escort Cards were Silver Luggage tags which also played as their wedding favor to all their guests. Her theme was based on all the places her and Matthew had traveled together...real CUTE!

Sometimes the server needs to know how many of each different entree at each table before your wedding day and then gathers what each guest requested the night of. I know each venue is different, the Ritz Carlton wants not only for each place card to have a key but you have to assign each guest to a specific seat at every table beforehand. Essentially that means 1 escort card and 1 place card for each guest. This makes things flow more smoothly. 

Depending on what the venue requires here are two suggestions for each scenario.

Example 1- Less specific

Example 2- For more specific seating chart and meal selection

Other Special Meal Requests by Your Wedding Guests:

Finally do not worry about the vegetarian meal selection, unless you have a lot of vegetarians attending. You or your fiance most likely know who these individuals are. Or if anyone has a problem they will most likely contact you. Another idea is to spread the word through your family and friends or post a brief note on your wedding website. Tell them to email you if they have any other food concerns, such as: vegans, nut allergies, lactose intolerant, shellfish allergies, etc.
